JOSHUA LE GALIENNE
The unique nature of the Nomadic Island project immediately appealed to me due to its focus on alternative ways of living and working. The integration of sustainability and broader social issues into an artistic project particularly resonated with me – these are themes I have worked with for many years. I consider my practice to be nomadic, it exists for specific environments, timeframes and audiences. I don’t share my work digitally so the conditions surrounding the presentation of my work is very important. I enjoy creating site-specific work that responds to the environment and am excited to work directly with the unique topography of Lasauvage in this project."
Joshua Le Gallienne (UK)
Joshua Le Gallienne (b. 1985) is a British artist exploring sustainable and unconventional approaches to the production and perception of acoustic sound within an artistic context. Through sculpture, installation, and performance, the artist stages intimate experiences that explore the relationships between sound, physical materials and environmental phenomena. Joshua’s work is regularly exhibited and performed in the UK and internationally; operating primarily outside of a traditional gallery context. Their work is unmediated and mostly undocumented, in line with this the artist has no website or online presence. Discipline: Sound Art |
NOMADIC ISLAND PROJECT
I will harness the natural forces and phenomenological features that exist at these locations to power or inform artworks. I look forward to working alongside residents to understand the local environment, and hope to find new meaningful ways to experience the landscape through sound. I value artistic residencies for their ability to accelerate the production of ideas and foster new perspectives through exchanges with people from different disciplines and backgrounds."
SOUND ART
Joshua embarked on a project with a number of outcomes which aimed to forge a deeper sonic and visual dialogue between the natural environment and the people. Together with the group of participants, they explored sustainable and unconventional methods of perception and production of sound utilising as primary materials natural elements such as air, wind, water and the human body.
