fugitivity is not only escape […] fugitivity is a being in motion that has learned that "organizations are obstacles to organizing ourselves" […] and that there are spaces and modalities that exist separate from the logical, logistical, the housed and the positioned. moten and harney call this mode a "being together in homelessness" which does not idealize homelessness nor merely metaphorize it. homelessness is the state of dispossession that we seek and that we embrace: "can this being together in homelessness, this interplay of the refusal of what has been refused, this undercommon appositionality, be a place from which emerges neither self-consciousness nor knowledge of the other but an improvisation that proceeds from somewhere on the other side of an unasked question?" ».

matteo demaria (fr)
matteo demaria, born in 1994 in oxford (ru), lives and practices in marseille. since his diploma at esbanmsn (nantes, fr), his research is based on the notion of "putting into discussion" and takes shape in editorial formats. to put in discussion represents the possibility of making critical voices emerge from conversations, confrontations, and the assemblage of diverse words... the results of artistic-poetic experiences, based on the interaction with other individualities, are recorded in publications, so that what is said and done, according to a precise moment, can say and do something else - according to other moments. Discipline: Visual Art / Literature |
NOMADIC ISLAND PROJECT
matteo invited the participants to reflect together on what ‘artistic work’ involves and represents. By means of different readings written by artists on how they see artistic work, matteo created together with his group moments of exchange and research on the topic of ‘work’ and ‘art’. The group proceeded in a creative way using the readings as working material to shape into different forms going from performative actions to editorial objects.
Reflections after Nomadic Island
How it started...
Nomadic Island was a bit of a mess. People coming, people going. Artists coming from around Europe, going to live and create together for three weeks. Public coming from around Differdange, going on vacation, to participate in the process - going back home. |
...how it ended.
